There's nothing wrong with appreciating and drawing inspiration from the classics. However, liking a game (or anything, really) out of nostalgia is a very different story: it's about the worst reason to like something!
Because let's face it: Just because it reminds you of the wonderful smell of your mommy's cookies on Christmas Morning 1999, Superman 64 still isn't a good game. Even if playing it today happens to perversely trigger warm & fuzzy feelings in your booty region. Likewise, just because your life now sucks, doesn't make Destiny a bad game! (Other reasons might though.)
I'm not saying you can't be a sentimental wuss. Just please don't promote those notions to be your measure of quality. Please don't fall for nostalgia milking. Thank you.
